Default Wide body kit

I own a 2008 C6 M6 Z51, I have been considering a wide body kit, curious as to what everyone feels is the best kit and where to buy it from.

In my search of this subject, I’ve come to believe it’s best to look for the parts used as they will need to paint the entire car anyway.

From talking to my body shop (they have done wide body kits) some of the after market pieces just don’t fit like factory, they have to be shaped and fitted which is labor intensive and expensive.

I’m waiting for body shop to give me quote with “new” parts if they can source them. I’m also looking at used pieces.

I have seen what some forum members have had done and I’m sure some of them will chime in with more info than I can provide as I haven’t completed this yet. It’s still in the works…. Below are a couple companies who provide these kits.

@huggerorange73 just did this conversion, he'd probably be a good one to ask.

An alternative option would be to sell your car & buy a widebody...unless you are installing all of the parts ( and there are many ) & painting yourself, this is an expensive road to take

Agreed, unless your married to the car you have now in mods or have some sort of sentimental attachment the cost of converting it is hardly worth it. Trading in on a widebody car would be the smarter route.

Pretty much where I was.

Built the car with top shelf go fast parts, then lost the car in a divorce...was able to buy the car back.

With all the time, effort, cost and sentimental value to me....I chose to widebody the rear of the car using OEM parts.

If you're not married to the car, and it's still stock...it's best just to buy a factory widebody car.

If I were starting at ground zero, I would be looking at a M6 GS 2012/13.

Looking for info on wide body conversions. Not interested in buying a wide body car. My "base" as it sits will smoke a Z06 and the GS interests me not at all. Don't owe a dime on the car and the grossly inflated market on GS and Z06 models right now is in no way less than what a paint job, which is already planned and rear quarters will cost me.

I did my rear only conversion for under 5k, including tires and wheels.

All the parts were OEM purchased through a friend's shop at a steep discount.

But I did all the labor and traded electrical work for paint work.

Similar situation. First car I'd ever owned that cost more than $10k, struggled for years and finally got in a damn good place in life and treated myself to a dream car. Then proceeded to cam, supercharge, water/meth kit, head work, exhaust, clutch, etc... Car is exactly where I want it to be mechanically, now I want to make it mine visually and different than the others I see. Thinking about an Emerald green metallic.

I'd be doing my own labor as well, paint and parts would be the only cost, and there are a lot of the crystal Red ones out there, color change is definitely happening anyway. Lol. How difficult is it to find oem quarters?

several places sell the OEM stuff, Cultrag comes to mind off the top of my head. If your trying to buy used Ebay or VetteWrecks in PA are both good choices. Keep in mind you'll also need widebody fitment wheels/tires unless your ok with them being sucked in

I'd be in the "sell it and buy what you want" camp.

But by making it widebody, you are effectively turning it into a GS, sans the badges.
Anywho, you are going to be hard pressed to find OEM widebody parts these days. There are a few here and there but since GM stopped making them a few years ago, then you will have to find repros or from a place like AES (last set of rear fenders they had were going for around $3k). Some of the repros are not OEM spec and size if that isnt an issue.

The rear-only widebody conversions look goofy to me, they always remind me of the Nissan delta wing racecar

I converted mine to widebody in 2018, bought the fenders and quarters from Ecklers and I advise to stay away from them as they required a lot of work to make them right. All the remaining parts I bought OEM from Cultrag, told them I had the fenders and quarters and they made a list of all the remaining parts I needed and shipped to me. I bought the OEM wheels from House of Wheels in Ft. Lauderdale. I did all the work myself, including paint and body work, all parts were new, not used, with a total cost of $8,500.00. I have no regrets whatsoever.
