Had a small cam (BTR stage 1 V2), headers with off road exhaust (SE), rod mod intake, Yank ss3600 converter and an external cooler, and a great tune done three months ago. Haven’t driven the car a ton since (life gets in the way sometimes) but today when I was out I realized that I’m now used to my “new” car. For anyone thinking of similar mods, don’t be afraid, it still drives like stock under normal driving conditions, even with the bigger converter. I’m sort of surprised how much I keep my NPP open now. Thought it would be obnoxious loud without the cats to tame it down. I’m controlling the NPP with a vacuum pump, a blow off solenoid and a toggle switch. Only hindsight is I wish I had sprung for the triple disc clutch in the converter so it could be locked during light throttle in 4-5-6 gears. Car is really fast now (460rwhp on dyno with unlocked converter in 4th gear). Just wanted to post my results in case anybody is on the fence about similar mods
Pretty similar to my setup less the convertor, I agree, I rarely shut my NPP, car runs and drives just as good as it did stock. Random question did you notice any difference in your temps? Mine seems to run on the hotter side now with AC on.
We had a yank 3600 in my cousins 09 and never really cared for the way it drove with it, thats why I avoided a convertor on mine. Dont get me wrong, it felt great when you hit it but it was a little too loose down low for my liking. I do have the cooler though, I run a Derale stack plate, trans rarely gets above 170, thats been one of the best additions by far. Sounds like you got a fun setup there though!
