Default C6 winter storage.

Does anyone know if there is any truth to the idea that a C6 should be winter stored with only 1/4 tank of gas? The reason being that a full tank would submerge the fuel delivery system in fuel and the Sulfur in the fuel would somehow react with the fuel system resulting in a very expensive repair. Thanks.

The fuel delivery system is always submerged. If it wasn't you could not start the car. Best practice is to run the tank down put in fuel stabilizer fill the tank and then store it. Some don't subscribe to the fuel stabilizer. Although it depends on how cold it is in your area condensation might be a factor to consider if you leave it with a 1/4 of a tank or less.

I always put in a bottle of Techron and fill the tank. Techron is supposed to clean/protect the fuel level sender. Not sure I really believe that but given the cost of replacement it's cheap insurance. I always store vehicles with a full tank to minimize condensation. Can't see how a 1/4 tank could be helpful in any way. There is very little sulfur in today's fuel in US and Canada.

With the vette, I’ve been though this exercise 6 times, and so far, so good. Try to arrange to have the tanks as empty as possible. Add Sta-bil and Techron and then fill with ‘94 octane. This should distribute the mixture through both tanks. The drive back home should distribute the mixture through the rest of the fuel system. Hook up the maintainer after the rest of winterization. The only thing I do after that is check the maintainer weekly to make sure it hasn’t gone rogue and decided to cook the battery.
