Guys, what are your thoughts on best air filter for the c6? I have always been a k&n guy but am rethinking this for my cars. I'm thinking Wix may be best for my GS. Your experiences here are valued help for me.
Many high performance air filters that don't expand the filter surface area achieve their performance my increasing the size of the "holes" in the filter media. this increases air flow, but reduces the filtration capability of the filter. I say this to say that if this is a performance car and driven as such, get a K&N or something of the sort. If this car is your collector/weekend cruiser, get a factory replacement air filter.
If by "best filter" we mean for HP then a properly sized K&N type (oiled cotton/gauze) is about as good as it's gonna get, IMO, and it's been that way since I was a kid. You'de think they'd have come up with something better by now but no.
And if by "best filter" we mean for actual filtering performance then a good 'ole AC Delco is hard to beat.
I run stock filters in my stock slow carsand cotton/gauze in my fast cars.
Any possibility these charts are available for an ACDelco A3107C and a WIX 49997 ?
It’s unrealistic to try to test and compare every model of every manufacturer’s filter. No one has the time or money to do that. What those tests showed was examples of commonly used filters using those manufacturer’s materials and technology. Probably doesn’t make that much difference to engine life unless you want to go a million miles. Literally, YMMV.
AC Delco Engine Air Filter: A2945C, AC Delco Cabin Air filter: CF131C
The two-piece open-end stock air box with dual AC Delco filters are my choice for my '06.

Oiled filters don't start to even get close to filtering until they get a little dirty, and the amount of crap they let through even then, forget about it. The add in the fact that over oiled filters will cause problems with the MAF sensor as well.
Note, when changing the air filter, make sure to pull the Maf filter to use Maf cleaner to clean them. The stock dry filters will not cause problems like the oiled filters, but still need to clean the Maf sensors from time to time.
Simply, the stock type dry filters already outflow the motor demands, and since they do the best at filtering to begin with, the reason to use them.
As for filters, love the Wix golds, sinceas good as the oem filter in filtering and air flow, and prefer them over the GM filter since they are white, not dark, and you can see when its time to change the filter over just guessing.
