Default Shocks

Hello,
Since DRM bilsteins are out of stock, what are the next best shocks for our cars? Bilstein B8/B6? Koni? This car is my daily driver and the shocks I have are OEM.

The bilsteins are nice, I have them on my car. they ride a bit more harshly though.

Depends what suspension you have and your usage. With Bilstein it's generally it's B8 for Z51, B6 for Base Non-Z51, B8 or DRM for Z06 depending how you use it. I was told that B8 are about 20% tighter than B6, and DRM are about 15% tighter than B8. I have B8 on my Z51 and think they are a great match, although my back would have liked a little less rebound on the rears.

If your shocks are worn and looking for a replacement why not just go with OEM replacements? They’re plenty firm enough for your Z06.

I just put DRMs on my 08 ZO6 w/55k mi and was surprised the factory shocks were still good and held pressure. DRMs are definitely firmer but the car feels a lot more planted with the DRMs. Glad I passed on the DRM poly bushings as they would have made things even firmer.

For a DD, Koni's all the way.

The Bilstein, and re-vavled DRM's are great for smooth surfaces (and the later will hold the car more level in the corners as well), but on light off camber surface chop (and surface chop over all), the FSD' hold the road better since they are a dual valve set up instead.

Because their are better shocks available than OEM for about the same money.

Sorry if I didn't mention it earlier, my car is a 07 z06. Reason why I want to upgrade the shocks is because I can feel almost every crack or bump on the road lol.

You may just want to replace them with the same oem shocks for your Z06. Aftermarket shocks are going to be firmer in ride quality. I have the Bilstein B8’s on my 2013 GS and they are a lot firmer than the oem. I can still feel the little cracks and bumps of the road.

Off topic but how old are the tires? Just replaced my 2016 date code tires and the ride definitely feels better with the new tires. I also went with runflats (what it had on it before also)

I just put DRM Bilsteins on my GS with the poly bushings. It’s dramatically improved the stability this car was lacking. I find the ride to be what is expected from a sports car vs being overly soft from the factory.

^^This^^. Any tires older than ~8yrs get very stiff and kill ride quality. Lots of old guys who have garage queens find this out the hard way.

Also you bought a ZO6. If a plush ride is what you were after, I would say you bought the wrong car.

Thats a good question, I might need to check on them when I get home. For sure they are run flats.

I been in different corvettes before (C6/C7) and I know for a fact my car is alot more rougher of a ride than what the other folks have.

I've used the stock Z51 shocks, the DRM Bilsteins, and the Koni Special Active (previously known as FSD) over the last 180k miles. I currently have the Koni's and while they are more comfortable, I don't feel they are worth the extra money over the Bilsteins. They are lower pressure shocks so I had to increase my ride height so I wouldn't scrap the air damn over everything.

Shocks don’t affect ride height. Just sayin…

The bilsteins are valved to sit at different heights so if you want to use em right, the ride height should change.

Why not go double adjustable shocks? I have a set of vikings and i can make it from boaty to painful with a few clicks.

If I didnt find these for a good price, I'd have gone B8s.

I went from a set of RF -> Ventus V12s and the v12s feel like a pillow. They're a little too soft, IMO.

Shocks indirectly affect ride height depending on length and tube pressure.

Get rid of the run flats will improve the ride better than swapping out good shocks. However, Bilstein B6s would be my choice for a softer ride.
