Ringing/whining noise during light engine acceleration
Hey experts, I have a mystery for you.
2011 C6 Grand Sport coupe 6M, 15k Miles. The car makes a ringing/ whining noise under these conditions only.
1. During light engine acceleration, ~ 2500-3500 RPM
2. Does not make the noise while sitting still, in neutral, while revving engine.Makes the noise only when moving, in gear or just rolling at speed in Neutral while reving the engine. Here is a video with the sound,
https://youtube.com/shorts/1T-6_Wab65Q?feature=share3 Since it doesn't make the sound while sitting still (while revving engine), I would think it had to be in the drive line.
Thanks for your help, the sound is driving me crazy
I believe I heard the sound. It is at a constant pitch while accelerating. My guess is that the sound is coming from something inside the torque tube, and the torque tube itself is what is giving it the ringing quality.

If it is inside the torque tube, is it of any concern?
With the car sitting still, in neutral, it does not make the noise but the drive shaft is still spinning like it is when the car is moving. Seems the differential is the picture when the car is moving, could it be the diff? I'm sure it must have the original fluid in it

It's hard to say exactly where it is coming from, but I wouldn't do anything about it at this point. If and when it gets worse, it will be easier to diagnose.
My 2011 6mt GS is doing the same thing. The shop says it coming from the torque tube area. I did have the harmonic balancer replaced with an ATI and had it pinned. I also replaced both tensioners, belts and idler, and water pump thinking a wobbling water pump pulley was causing it.
I changed both diff and tranny fluid as well. This actually all started after I had broken motor mounts replaced. Which I’m wondering if all the movement of the engine caused something to fail in the torque tube and now that it’s all solid again, it’s showing up.

any update on this? My 2011 GS is doing the same thing and I haven’t narrowed it down quite yet.
It is still doing it but seems to go away after driving it for awhile when it is fully warmed up. It's still a mystery. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the exhaust where it expands when heated and tightens up the clearance between things, thus stopping the vibration and resulting sound. I need to get it up on a lift to diagnose

interesting, mine doesn’t get quieter at all. I should check the exhaust over.

Did you ever have a chance to get it on a lift and see if it was an exhaust leak?
interesting, I think the mount change might be part of this issue as it tightens everything up and I was driving the car pretty hard with a bad mount and it likely caused an issue with the TT.
