I have replaced the brake pads, rotors and bled the brake system on our 2011 GS.
There is an area about 1/2 inch wide at the outer edge of the rotor where the brake pads are not contacting the rotors.
I have removed the caliper and checked the brake pads position and that looks good. Also I removed the pads and pumped the brake pedal and observed that the brake pistons are moving equally.
Suggestions.Help ????
I'd guess that you're not braking hard enough, or haven't properly bedded the pads.
A few hard stops from high speed (not completely!), then cruise for 5min without touching brake pedal to allow cooling...will likely even out the contact surface
I had a similar issue on my truck after I did a brake job, but only on my right rear. I could actually move the pad at the top but not the bottom. The issue was the slider pin so I replaced them and problem solved. Just something to check.
Ok, I'll rephrase my statement. Many new rotors are not true. Did OP check to make sure they are? Process of elimination. All pistons are moving equally. Yet two flat objects are not meeting equally. Indication by photograph is that one of the two flat objects are at an angle. I.E. one of the two flat objects are not true. 50% chance that one of the 2 flat objects that isn't true is the rotor. As you cannot safely resurface a pad. It's safe to go ahead and verify that the rotor is true.
Well, I could be wrong but I thought that the GS had ‘fixed’ calipers i.e. no guide or slider pins. The pistons are supposed to push equally from both sides. And the reason I asked if padlets were used is because I suppose one of them might be deformed and not making contact at the outer edge, but all of them? OP, how long and how many miles since the brake job?
I will bleed the inside fitting first, then the outside fitting.
And for the Heck of it swap the inner pad with the outer pad and check the rotor for flatness and parallelism.
