The whole thread is a good read for this issue
5/64 drill bit cut the same size as the original pins, $2 for a pack of 2 bits, did mine couple of years back, still solid today.
Good Luck

I did the drill bits a few months ago, still working well.
There's a few videos on doing the whole operation, you just need a grinder with a cut-off wheel to cut the drill bits.

I ordered some 5/64" drill bits for this project. I ran across a pretty detailed video on how to do this.

I used the drill bit fix also, and it worked perfectly. I like to see behind me just incase I might be going just a few miles over the limit.

When I read about using 5/64in drill bits to replace the pins which hold the mirror, I bought a set of 10 drill bits from Amazon. Tried the mod this morning. I must have snapped 6 or more individual pins. Could not figure WTF was going on. Went to a local Big Box hardware store and bought some name brand drill bits, 2 per pack. When home, cut and trimmed to length. The freaking mirror went on with no problem at all.
Lesson... Don't buy those cheap-*** bulk packs of bits. Those things literally snapped like toothpicks.
