Does the C6 have a way of checking the codes like the c5 does? On a C5 you can use the dash options button to look up codes and was wondering if the c6 has the same thing on it. TIA

No, but if you don't have access to an OBD reader, any of the big box auto parts shops will read codes for no cost.
Cheap scanner is only going to tell you what codes are show, once you go get a trouble code in the dash. For something like this, I use dash commander on my android phone, and wifi elm327 plugged into the obdII port, that can clear such codes. My reasoning, elm327 comes in handy if I need to data log using scanmaster as well using my laptop.
Note, android dash commander is set up for Blue tooth elm-327, but can be changed in the settings to use a WIFI elm-327 as well. If going this way, find a mini elm-327 that you will not knock it out the port if you are data logging as you drive the car.
Now to scan deeper, need something like a Tech II clone to pull codes that may have only happened once, but not enough times to cause the trouble light to come in the dash. Also, will be able to pull the history codes all the way down to body and ABS level, which a cheap scanner will not.
