Default 07 C6 started without clutch

Last week at work I parked my 07 behind my sons 03 corvette Z06. We went to the cars at lunch time and I sat in my passenger side to write out an estimate . My son was going through his trunk looking for something. I pushed the accessory button and the car started and pinned him between both cars. At first impact it pushed his car enough he could jump on to my hood. If then plowed his car into a Hyundai in front of him tearing off it’s bumper. This was completely chaotic 15 seconds . To my surprise my son was ok , in pain but ok. He went to hospital had test in calf muscle and blood clots from his legs taking the hit. All in all it could have been so much worse. The odd part is my car came away with a couple minor scratches , ripped off front plate. His Z06 had front and rear damage and the car in front of his had damage.

has anyone ever had this issue with the car starting without the clutch engaged ?

I had 4 C6s that started and ran without a clutch.

After 3, you’d think you have it figured out and and get one with a clutch

There have been instances of this happening before. I would start by taking a look at the clutch position switch.

I never leave mine in gear, always in neutral, parking brake set. There's been a few instances where something shorts out and starts the starter to turn over, might not actually start the engine but if in gear ( 1st ) it's gonna start moving forward. At 2am in the garage, wouldn't want it moving forward into something, if it sits there cranking on the engine till the battery dies that's bad too but hopefully just a dead battery. This would have prevented this horrible accident. Hope he's going to be ok.

Accessory is down, ignition is up. Even though it shouldn't start without the clutch engaged, if you pressed the button down there should've been no reason for it to even attempt to start.

Glad everyone is ok. Witnessed an incident way back when I was a valet where a fellow valet ran to get a Viper and when he hit what he thought was the unlock button, the car fired up and took off into several other vehicles. Turned out the owner had installed a remote start on the car and because we always parked the cars in gear it took off. The owner ended up being responsible for all the damage.

Good point, the OP should also check to see if the car has, or has ever had a remote start installed.
