Default Battery

Is it necessary to disconnect battery if you are removing console to fix bushings on shift cable. All are plug in connections . I hope!

Well, yes, no, maybe so.......whenever you work around wire connections or solenoids and you could possibly short a wire, by dropping a tool, or a nut, or whatever.......so what is the best deterrent? Do what you like, however, disconnecting the battery takes just a minute and you won't have any difficulties, just in case.

shifter cable is connected at transmision so when connecting at console does it have to be in same position after changing bushing

When a new cable is installed, a procedure is followed to lock the cable length with both the shifter & transmission lever in the identical position. This will lock the cable at a predetermined length. If you are only replacing the bushing and not the cable, then both the shifter and the transmission lever should be in the same position when connecting to the cable.

Hope this helps...GD

Default Connectors

GD you bailed me out again the square release hole was up the unlucky way. After reading your info and 90% pick tool I got it. Had to leave the mode switch connected. No luck disconnecting it. Put new bushing in and have already road tested after 3 hrs of cussing under my breath. Thanks very much man. All I need to do now is determine how to change transmission end with no lift. Have jack and stands but don’t know if I have to remove exhaust or not. As I mentioned before age has something to do with it. Any suggestions are appreciated

The transmission bushing disintegrated on my buddies 2007 base. He changed it by jacking the left rear and without dropping the exhaust. So it is possible.

Good luck and report your experience.

Default Bushing

My concern now is if bushing looks good should I change it(on rear)and wouldn’t it be hard to get in position to remove old bushing?

If the trans end looks good I am not sure I'd do it. 70 years old here. I did mine 2 days ago on stands. Bushing was completely gone but I'd say a pick would be the tool to get the old one out. The exhaust needs to come out but I did not do that. I tried for 20 minutes, took a break and tried for 20 more minutes. Fifth time I got it in. I have not done the other end yet. Not sure I will.

Default Bushing

Thanks man for the input. At our age we have to be more careful but I do enjoy the challenge.I just don’t want to chance breaking bushing holder and really have a problem.
