I would like to change my stock cam. I have a 2006 LS2 with automatic transmission. The car is fully stock besides it's H-piped without back boxes.
I have no experience with cams at all.
BTR stage 3 or 2 cam kits looks great for me.
If I buy a cam kit with springs, rods, new bolt and gaskets and go for a tune, do I need anything else? My priority is reliability with some power gains, and I love the chopping sound of the cam too. I might want to get to 5-600whp later.
Any information is appreciated, I live in Hungary and there are quite a few corvettes here so I'm doing the install myself then hire a shop just for the tune.
Keep in mind with the stage 3 (possibly even the stage 2 on an ls2 but I cant say for sure) you'll need to do a stall convertor and trans cooler as well. Your best bet as far as cam considerations should be to call BTR or whatever company you decide to work with and tell them your power goals and limitation. Do lifters while your there, its good insurance. This involves removing the heads. But another 500 bucks now could save you from having to rebuild a motor later when a lifter breaks and wipes the cam. 500-600hp will require forced induction. If thats your goal I would consider forgoing the cam and doing a supercharger.
Probably the best bang for the buck is a S/C. I installed the A & A S/C, A to A intercooler, boost-a-pump, etc. myself, along with Belanger Custom Tri-Y Headers. Amazing power and dependability. Forced induction is probably the best bang for the buck.......
My dream would be an A&A supercharger, but since I live in Europe I have to pay an extra 27% tax and 3% customs, which means +2000 bucks up on the $6000 kit and unfortunately it's way too much for me now. A monthly wage here is around $870 if you're well-paid lol
