I’ve read a lot of the previous questions/answers for tires, a bit confusing and sometimes conflicting. I only daily drive, no tracking, and have standard C6 rims. I want to upsize to 305s on the rear, and probably 255s on the front. For the 305s, is a 305/35/19 better than the 305/30/19 in terms of fit and height for the standard 10” rim? Thanks!
I run 305/35/ZR 19's on the rear. 305 is the width in millimeters. 30 or 35 is the aspect ratio (wall height) - 30% or 35% of the tire width. ZR is the speed rating. 19 is the rim diameter in inches. Therefore... 305/30ZR/19 has a wall height of 3.6" (92mm) 305/35ZR/19 has a wall height of 4.2" (107mm) This affects the overall diameter (& circumference) of the tire - your diameter and obviously circumference have grown (you can do the math from the different wall heights above). The 35 in opposition to the 30 will give a much better ride due to the increased wall height. Hope this helps.
Thanks! I’ve read a lot about the 305/30 being a bit wide for the 10” rim and squirming a bit when cornering, although for daily street driving not sure that’s a problem. Also tire diameter seems to possibly mess with traction control. Just a lot of variables. I’m looking at Nittos or Khumo tires btw.
I'm running Michelin PS4's in 295/35 19 rears and 255/40 18 fronts. You can go 305/35 19's with the same fronts and not get the nannies to go crazy on you.
Tire Rack spec page was my go to site for looking up diameter and width for any size tire.
Not the size you are asking about, but I found a good price on rear 275-40-19s and the sizing seemed acceptable. But they rubbed in the fender well whenever I went through a good sized dip in the road.
