Default Changing insurance.

Just bought an 05. Called my classic car insurer to put the car on my policy. Was told it would take 24 to 48 hours to get the cards and declaration page. I need the declaration page to secure the loan. Now I call up and they are telling me it will take 7-10 business days. So what I plan to do is put the car on my regular policy for the week until the classic one comes through. When that comes through cancel the one on my regular policy.

Something is off here on the loan, since your normal full coverage policy covers a car during its purchase, until you do get a chance to add it that policy after you buy it, or get another policy from someone else instead.

Nothing wrong. Financed through JJ best I don't think they are trying to pull a fast one. My problem was the classic car insurance told me 24-48 hours last week. Now I called to find the status and they say 7-10 days.

Never heard of an insurance company that didn't email the policy and proof of insurance cards to be printed at home after the policy was in force.

Doesnt your primary insurance cover your purchase for 10 days until added to a policy? All my carriers have always told me this.
You have “assumed insurance” being a current customer

I have never been asked to provide anything special to acquire a loan. Just that I have a policy in general.

You never dealt with a classic car insurance company. It has to go through underwriting to get approved. I got the insurance through state farm today and had my paperwork in 10 minutes.

No. Did you do the loan over the phone or at the dealer.

can’t say I have ever done a loan over the phone. Always been in person at the time of purchase and always on weekends when insurance brokers are closed.

If you have some kind of policy, there is implied coverage to get you home and hold you over for 10 days

I think it depends on the dealer. I picked up an X3MC two weeks ago for my wife and I had to show them an insurance card with the new vehicle on it before they would give me the keys. Had nothing to do with the loan as that was secured before I stepped foot in the dealership to pick up the vehicle. My brother-in-law purchased a new vehicle earlier this year & that dealer did the same thing, he had to show an insurance card with the new vehicle added before they let him drive off.

I've purchased several other vehicles from different dealerships & only had to show that I had insurance. I called my agent after the fact to have them add the new vehicles.

Re: the OP's collector car insurance taking 7-10 days, I had a quote on the phone, paid the premium & had my policy docs within minutes on my Callaway. Not sure why they need 7-10 days for an '05 base Corvette?

About 5 years ago I purchased a Genesis Sedan from a dealer in Portland Oregon (got a GREAT deal). I flew up from Phoenix to see the car, went to the bank, purchased the car and drove off. On my way driving back to Arizona, (4 hours after purchasing the car) I was in eastern Oregon, about 10:00 PM, driving 65 MPH came to the crest of a hill, and there was a deer standing in the middle of the highway. Of course I hit it, and it caused about $8,000 damage. The next day I called the insurance company to let them know about the accident. No questions asked: the car was automatically insured the first 30 days after the purchase. It was repaired and came out perfect. Still have the car today.

In NY you need cards to register the car.

So you literally sit at the dealer until your insurance company answers the phone and emails a new policy document over?
What happens if you buy on a Friday night or Saturday night and insurance agents are not avail? Cars do not get sold on nights or weekends in NY?

No. You call your insurance agent or company and you tell them you want to add a car. They take the information. And within 15 minutes the car is insured and you have the cards. I don't know what happens on Friday or Saturday as I usually buy my cars during the day. Most of the time on Saturday. Most dealers by me close at 5, maybe 7 at the latest. No all night car dealers by me. That's NY law, you need cards and insurance to get a car registered. I usually lease or finance a car so it must be registered and insured before it goes out the door. Of course if you buy cash then you can do with the car as you want.
