Default C6 corvette center console

The mechanic who last worked on my car stripped the screws theat keep the center console in place. I have seen a lot of places that replace the cover but nothing on how to repair.

Would it be possible to put screws back in, with glue on them, and then clamp the lid down until glue sets?

The current lid is still very nice and would hate to toss it.

Thanks

I think the console lid is made of ABS. You can take scrap ABS plastic and shave it into a dust like mess, then mix with acetone and make a slurry of it (acetone evaporates fast) and fill the holes with the slurry. Once dry and hard, drill small holes for the screws. An alternative would be to use two part epoxy and do the same thing.

That means once it's back in it's not coming out again with any ease. Look for a screw with a slightly larger diameter thread. That should work.

I’d either try using a slightly larger screw, being careful to not over-tighten it, or perhaps maybe try inserting one of those small plastic drywall anchors into the existing hole that would expand when the screw is inserted.

Many thanks for all the inpul.

I fixed the problem in a slightly different way. I used the same screws and just screwed them back iin, slightly offset. This gave the screw enough material to catch and hold. Cover is nice and tight and since they were inside you can't tell anything was done.

The screw holes on my console stripped out years ago. I ended up putting glue in the holes for the screws to catch onto. Eventually the glue wore out and I just used bigger screws.
