After 16 years and 181,173 miles my vert is moving on to a new owner. I really had fun and traveled all over the lower 48 in it. Next up is a 2024 C8 Stingray coupe. Not as involving as my MN6 vert but an awesome car.

I hope your new C8 is as much fun and engaging to drive but it will probably feel odd not having a manual transmission. Enjoy your new C8. What are the specs on and color of your new Corvette?

 

I'm getting a Torch Red 2lt coupe with natural interior. I also ordered the forged sterling painted wheels, performance exhaust, front lift and the painted trim items.

My maintenance costs were pretty high during my ownership of the C6. Just to name a few items I had to replace the a/c compressor, the power steering pump twice, the water pump twice, the crankshaft damper twice, shocks once, the clutch due to an oil leak, the torque tube assembly, radiator, starter motor five times, the brake mater cylinder and vacuum booster and many more repairs. Some things I was able to do myself, but I don't have a lift so anything under the car had to go to a shop. There were 31 engine oil changes, nine differential oil changes, three transmission oil changes, six sets of tires, several brake fluid flushes, several coolant changes and a lot more, but the car never left me stranded and it was always a joy to drive.

 

You have done quite a lot of maintenance and repairs. So far at 73,500 miles I have replaced the crankshaft damper once with a Summit billet damper and ARP bolt and the previous owner replaced the damper once with OEM. I replaced the mag ride shocks once with Bilsteins and I have just replaced the alternator with a new Valeo, I installed all new pulleys and tensioners and replaced the serp and AC belts. 19 engine oil & filter changes by both me and the previous owner, one differential oil change by me, one transmission oil change by me, two Dexcool changes - one by me and one by the previous owner, two sets of tires - one set by me and one by the previous owner and I have a new set of rears which will go on soon. I had the TPM's replaced with the latest new set of tires. I have done one brake fluid flush, I installed a new set of spark plugs and wires, 5 new batteries - 2 by me, I installed a new set of hood and trunk struts and one new gas cap. Also 4 new pairs of engine air filter and 4 new cabin filters, 2 by each of us. For my personal preference I replaced the stock sway bars with Steinjager front & C6 Z06 rear sway bars with poly bushings, new GM end links and the stock exhaust with NXT Step Perf exhaust.

* Got a warning the ABS/Traction Control was
giving a code. Purchased a code reader and
determined the problem with in the right front
circut. After examination found that the plug
from the ABS wiring harness to the right front
ABS sensor was taped together probably by
ProTek. Plugs are brittle due to heat and age.
Determined I could use a wire tie to hold the

181k miles is a good amount for the original C6 drivetrain. Not uncommon for the LS1-LS3 engines to see 200k without a tear down. Of course, proper maintenance is required to keep the drivetrain going.

After reading the C8 forum threads. No doubt the C8 is an awesome sports car but DIY maintenance is no longer part of the equation with C8 ownership. Definitely not without a car lift. DCT transmissions are a notable high maintenance issue with mandatory dealer fluid and filter flushes at 7k miles and rates are as high as $2k for a trans fluid change. A new DCT is running around $25k-$30k for R&R, when out of warranty. Many people say the DCT will require a replacement well before 100k miles.

I am NOT bashing the C8, just saying it's not as DIY friendly as the C6 and I don't think as reliable, especially long term (100k).

My sales person has said I may take delivery of my C8 late December, but I suspect it will probably be in January.

You guys are correct about the maintenance issues. I have been watching UTube and about the only thing I can probably do myself is an engine oil change. Members of my club have lifts but I would be hesitant to do the transmission flush and filter change without an up to date programmer.

As for the comments concerning the C6 engine longevity. 181,000 was nothing there are members her on the Forum with far more mileage.

There is a guy in Jacksonville, FL that donated his C5 to the museum with over 500,000 miles on the odo. The only major maintenance was a valve job at about 450,000 miles. The car was an auto and never let him down. His daily commute was in Brunswick, Ga.

Modern metallurgy has really extended engine life.
