Default paddle shift issues

My 2006 auto. with paddle shift doesn't always work. I tried coming to a full stop and putting in S mode and it still shifts normal. Any advise? In D the paddles don't work at all.

Paddle shifts won't work in S until you start to use paddles. In D you can use paddles but if you stop it will go back into normal operation.

If you are in D and try using paddles where you might over rev the engine you will get that beep.

Paddles do not work in D. Once is S mode, select one of the paddle shift lever and shift up or down and you will be in paddle shift mode. To get out of paddle shift mode, select D. It's in the manual. I'm not sure, but I think that I read on CF, paddle shift would work in D on the 2011 and later models.

I know they work in D because mine is an auto and they work that way, as mentioned above.

I have a 2008 Z51 A6 and the paddle shift does not work in D. You have a 2012. I looked in several model year owner's manuals and found that being able to use paddle mode in D started with the 2011 model year.

The 2006 paddles will not work in D. I have a 2006 and it must be in S. Once you toggle the paddle, you can up or down shift.
In later years the paddles were made to work in D as well..

I would check your owners manual. There is good information on how the paddle shifter and transmission works.
