I recently purchased a '09 Vette from Arizona. The whole front end is clear wrapped. There are a few significant gouges/rips/tears that are pretty noticable.
Can this old wrap be taken off easily? Or cut and patched, etc.??
The car was mostly garaged, but still, 15 yrs and 54k miles in the Az sun has probably been tough on it. I wouldn't want to start taking it off and end up with a nightmare project, or ruin the paint underneath.
Suggestions??
I have never had ppf but I have seen some videos of how it's put on and taken off. You do want to pull the film up, you want to pull it back. Be sure to watch a few videos or maybe have the people putting on the new ppf, take it off.
I took it off the front of my '02 mag red C5 and it came out beautifully. I used a blow dryer, plastic razor blades, goof-off and copious quantities of alcohol.
Another thing you may want to use to help removal is an essential citrus oil (orange, lemon, or even grapefruit). I used to be a global teaching physician for the largest essential oil company in the world, and pure citrus oil will remove glue and won't hurt the paint what-so-ever. It also smells great at the same time.
So as someone whos had to remove some poorly done PPF jobs, use caution. We recently had a customer who brought in a front bumper that was poorly PPF'd and it was a nightmare to say the least. If your not 100% confident I would say let whoever is going to install the new PPF handle it. You'll pay a removal fee but it will atleast be right.
