I recently had just the opposite problem, the lights wouldn't turn off. Might be the reason the previous owner replaced many batteries that kept going dead??
I removed the bulbs in my '09. Problem solved for now.
To answer the question, yes, the bulbs can burn out, even LEDs, as I found out. But both at the same time is unlikely. If it’s not the classic dimmer **** problem, and if the other interior lights aren’t working check the fuse panel in the passenger footwell at the location CTSY/LAMP.

Hum.... I thought there was a timer that would turn them off after a while even if left on
