What years and models did Chevy relocate the battery from the right side engine compartment to the right rear trunk compartment? More importantly, WHY?
On a coupe with manual trans and a dry sump the battery was relocated to the right rear to make room for the extra oil reserve. Don't know what year it was started but it was not an after market "thing".

Manual transmission Grand Sport, Z06 and I think ZR1 were that way. Wasnt an aftermarket thing.

Hence the word "think".......Learned something new today...... Appreciate you
Z06, ZR1, 427 vert, and manual GS have the battery in the rear. The dry-sump oil tank is located under the hood where the battery would be.
One clarification to the above. The manual GS "convertible" is the outlier to the rule that applies to the coupe and does not have a dry sump system so the battery is not located in the trunk, but under the hood.
