Default Is the heating element in mirror replacable?

My 2008 doesn't like to heat the driver's side mirror anymore and I would like to fix this. The glass itself is in perfect condition, even dimming works. And I do like the dimming function during the night-time.

The original dimming/heating mirror seems to be priced ridiculously high, since I don't need the whole package... If I would settle for a mirror with only the heating option without dimming, the price would be something like a third of the original.

So, has anyone swithched only the heating element behind the glass and is it even possible? If it is, I could buy an only heated version and detach the heating element while keeping the original glass with dimming. This way it would still be cheaper than purchasing a used original one with both heating and dimming from ebay.

I'm sure wiser people will chime in. But have you checked the connector going to the mirror glass? That seems like the more likely fail point to me. My issue was a permanently dark mirror. In my research I found this video where he disassembles and repairs the mirror. In the end, I bit the bullet and bought the $160 factory replacement glass.

Thanks for the video! Should have thought of searching that on my own... But looks like it could be done!

I haven't done anything to it yet... It has been bugging me since last winter, when I noticed, that the driver's mirror doesn't warm properly. Here's a couple of pic's in which you can see, that the driver's side mirror is warming very little and the passenger's side mirror has cleared the mist already:

And this winter the issue has seemed to be getting even worse. But it should be quite an easy task to take the mirror assembly apart from the housing and clean all the connections properly. And if that doesn't help, then it's time to try changing the heating element.
