Decided to check the date on my 08 Corvettes battery because good lord I can't remember that far back, unless I'm mistaken the freaking things original 16 years old!

That's why I always go back with AC Delco, they last if properly maintained...

January of 2018.

The warranty date code is located on the top label of the battery. The first character is a letter for battery make, followed by 3 numeric digits. The first two digits determine the month, and the third digit is year. The fifth character indicates the manufacturing plant.

That would be 01 January and 8 is 08 not 18 the way I read it..

The original battery in my 2006 Coupe (that we bought new) had no such markings. That battery looks aftermarket to me.

Could be either I suppose. From GM site:

The first character is a letter for battery make, followed by 3 numeric digits. The first two digits determine the month, and the third digit is year. The fifth character indicates the manufacturing plant. For example, P097N means the battery was made in September 2017.

Sorry Chris, but it is so unlikely that you are still starting your car with the original battery from 2008 and more likely that you have a 6-year old battery from 2018. The date codes are rotated from the factory, so the "8" was used for 2008 and reused for 2018. They can do this because they are reasonably certain that an auto battery is highly unlikely to last more that 10 years. This isn't my language, this comes from the manufacturers.

No offense intended, but you yourself said you could not remember, and that is believable.

I think you can look up the date code based on the serial number at the delco site.

I seriously doubt that is a 2008 battery myself but who knows.

See the second image. Shows that the year is either 2008 or 2018. You decide.

It's because batteries don't last 10 years.

That picture you are looking at was when the car was brand new with less than 100 miles on it. That's what came from the factory.

I had an Optima red top in my 2002 Silverado that lasted close to that long. An it lived outside in the Texas heat. It will be interesting to see how long my Napa AGM battery lasts in a garaged Grand Sport. But I've never seen a wet cell last anywhere near that. I've always had to replace mine at least once during the 3 year warranties, most recently on my MIL's 2008 Tahoe and on our 2001 Corvette.

FYI: My original '08 battery was still fine in 2019. But out of precaution, I changed it. Who knows how long it might have lasted.

New cars are tempermental about batteries, and that's why I swapped it out.

I went for an ACDelco AGM which was tricky to find. Here is my install if anyone is interested:

I bought mine from a GM dealer, but it is still available from other sources.

March is in my sights - time to wake up the C6 from its winter snooze. Fun times ahead.

This is what I mean. So your 08 was replaced with a 09 which makes it look like just a year difference. I'm sure alot of these newer and better batteries last 10+years
