My buddies and I bought three shifter harness wiring kits. All three of us had the the locked in park problem, mine didn't do as often as the other two but it did do it.
We also bought the bushings for the shift cable. All of them crumbled when taking it apart. Was able to do the lower bushing without lowering the exhaust. Used my long crowbar to pop the lower off then another long bar to get behind the lever on the trans to support it then used the crowbar to push it back together, not bad at all. The lower seems to be more damaged by the heat of the exhaust pipes inches away.
Just do it.
When you were removing the one on the trans end did it crumble easily for you too? I have delayed doing that one because the one on the shifter end was very hard to remove, since it appeared to be in excellent condition even after 16 years. I'm not sure I have sufficiently small grinding and drilling tools to get to the one in the trans end, if it were to put up a fight like the other one. Not terribly interested in dropping the exhaust or damaging the plastic end that receives the bushing. So, I keep a bushing in the car and hope for the best for right now.
Just did the bushing and harness two days ago. The bushing in my 2008 was like new but I replaced it anyway. It was a mother to get out because it wanted to come out in one piece…..didn’t crack apart, I had to tear off small pieces to remove it.
Auto transmission, the bushing at the trans was in worse shape than the one by the shifter. I just used the bent end of a long crowbar and poped it off, used another prybar under the lever on the trans then forced everything together.
