My black top is a total lint magnet. Mostly gararged with 54k miles. Very good shape for 15 yrs old.
I only use a brush or sponge when washing, but I usually have to go over it with some inverted masking tape to get it
So, is there any product or ??? that will repel the lint or help remove it during a wash?
May be time to do a clean and protect. I used the 303 kit and was happy with the results. Mine is tan and I can blow it off with a blower. No lint sticks to mine sitting in the garage.
My process on the 2008 (top still looks new) is: I vacuum the top before the wash. Use a microfiber wash mitt that does not shed. Same with drying cloth....blot the top, dont rub. As noted above, its probably time to do a clean and restore process....Rag Top is a good brand to use also. Always be gentle with the top, use a soft brush when using the clean and restore kit. Don't leave the top down if you are not driving, this helps prevent creasing. Also, buy one of those lint/animal hair rollers and use it periodically.
On previous convertibles owned, I have used those cheap peel and use lint rollers. I use it in place of washing canvas tops. I got mine for free after rebate at Menards. Here is one example sold on Amazon.
I know of no product that acts as a lint repellant.
The Ragg Top products work well for cleaning and as a water repellant.
I typically apply/ use these products semi-yearly.
Your wash mitt may be leaving said lint, but I've used new mitts on the top and never notice a lint issue.
I'd suggest using a dedicated new mitt or new sponge and/ or brush for the top and yes, wash the top with the products you wash the rest of the car with.
I can only say what works for me.
Vacuuming and a lint roller, and Raggtop.

Good luck.
Take a look at Chemical Guys Convertible Top Protectant. That's what I use.
