I see this good deal near me of a basically stock c6 zo6 2006
should i be wary of this year car?
being that it’s the first year this car was in production
or should i should have nothing to worry about?
what years would be best to look into without breaking the bank?
I would not worry about the year model but there is an issue with the LS7 have the potential to drop a valve. This is for all year models of that engine. So ask if the heads have been fixed.
I think the cost to repair is around 2k or roll the dice and you are looking at a new engine which also has that same problem that would need to be fixed.
Do a search on c6 corvette LS7 problems and you can read all about it.

Probably closer to 5 grand in parts and labor these days... but still better than 20-30k for a replacement LS7
This would be my first corvette, would it be better honestly to get a new car?
for example, the other car im interested in is a s550 mach 1, track ready from factory, magniride suspension, tremec as well. And is similar price for a well kept c6 zo6
and do love both cars and v8 in general, also i understand that both cars have huge aftermarket support, maybe even the s550’s more now.
I know both cars have big potential, power wise in addition
only looking to add few performances mods atm however
LT headers, e85, exhaust, and probably the rest in tires, wheels, and other cosmetic mods
what would be the best route for me in your opinion?
By all means the c6z is a bad *** car. Just do your research and understand what you're getting into as far as what's needed with the valvetrain to prevent a catastrophic failure. Head fix is a must and a no brainer in my opinion.
As for the Mach 1, pretty bulletproof car from the factory. Ford pretty much had most of the issues lined out with them when they released. Coyote, fairly stout tr3160 trans if you go manual, bullet proof 10r80e if you go auto, respond well to bolt ons. Handling and braking are amazing... great car for the money. That being said it will never give you the raw racer feeling the c6z will. Two wildly different cars. I'd drive both to see what your goals are. I also wouldn't rule out a Grand Sport either, all the greats of the Z less the ls7 problems but a little less power. If you do go Mustang avoid the autos in the Gas, the mt82 6 speed is hot garbage and will break under stock power.
I've had Corvettes, Z06, and Mustangs. They are totally different animals, each with their pros and cons. As SiS wrote, you need to drive both to see what you prefer.
