Was getting my Harmonic Dampener replaced today and the mechanic stated that I had a small leak in my left rear shock. This is a 2008 C6 with the magetic shocks and was wondering about other peoples experience with these? I does not appear to rub against the tire at this point but in doing some research on this already they are wanting $1800 to replace these? Options? Bite the bullet and replace? First time Vette owner so appreciate the feedback.

Magnetic shocks will have a little oil on them.Does not mean they are bad

Magnetic ride dampers are an expensive replacement item. The mag ride shocks can be replaced with Z51, Z06 or an aftermarket equivalent shock if you have the ride control tuned out or override each shock with simulators which is what I did. I went with Bilstein B8's, Z06 sway bars, new end links and Prothane poly bushings for less than the price of 2 mag ride shocks. I kept my mag ride shocks since 3 were fine and I could put it back to stock if I didn't like the ride and just replace the one shock but I like it much better so they stayed. Rock Auto has the Mag Ride shocks for much less than the dealer. Eventually Mag Ride shocks will not be available for our C6's.
I couldnt find replacement mag shocks anywhere but for Tahoes/Denalis/porsche. I went with bc racing coil overs... so much better. especially since my springs were failing too.
so did you do anything else when you replaced them? Excuse my ignorance but are the Bilsteins magnetic or a normal ride? Did you have to do anything to the sensors? Thanks,
Yep, a little bit of weeping is normal. But they do go bad and people swap the Bilstein's, they are just normal shocks, relatively cheap. Only magnetic option is Genuine GM as far as ive found.
I think you just leave sensors unplugged and its not an issue.

As Well.
If it troubles you, clean the wetness off the shock with a little kerosene or mineral spirits and keep an eye on it. If it takes a long time for the wetness to return, rest easy. If it's back after a couple of weeks of daily driving, then you might have a leak worth addressing.
My 2003 Anniversary Edition with MagRide of yester-year had minor wetness on its MadeRide shocks. I did back then what I suggest you do. I rested easy.
I wipe down my shocks and fender liners when I have the wheels off to clean them on the inside. Clean shocks fender liners, and wheels, always look exceptional on cruise nights and car shows.
