About to pull the trigger on a 2009 A6 3LT car. It looks to be a fairly clean daily-driver example but has an issue starting. The old starter arced against the ground so he replaced the starter with a rebuilt O'Reilly's starter and then this started happening. The car kicks in and out a few times before starting and it doesn’t start every time. Sometimes you have to hit the button half a dozen times or more for the car to start. I will attach a video below of the issue. Any thoughts as to what this could be? My primary suspects are faulty starter solenoid, or poor electrical connection at the starter terminal. Any and all help is appreciated
Look at the ground on the starter, and make sure there is good contact. I agree.... make sure the battery is up to par. Good luck, let us know what you find. OH, I also agree, why a rebuilt starter?
She’s home!! Absolutely love this car already. It started up for me first try when I went to go buy it. After being trailered home, it took three tries to start and it sounds like the starter was not disengaging.
I ordered a new AC Delco Starter to go in this weekend. I am hoping that is the issue! I fixed some other small issues like the electronic door buttons on the outside which was nice and easy after owning my XLR
Installed a brand new AC Delco gold starter, and she fired right up! Thanks for all the help. It was a super easy 1 hour install, I didn't even drop the cat to replace it. Car runs like a top
I just bought a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette, 1 owner, 24K miles, the car is in excellent condition, will keep it for many years.
Have been buying new replacement parts before they are discontinued, Starter, Alternator, Water pump, Brake Pads and more.
Buying parts from NewGMParts, Amazon, eBay, GM parts only seems to have rebuild starters, found a new starter on Amazon, shipped by Classic Chevrolet Sugarland.
Seen the problem more than a half dozen time on rebuilt starters, with the bendex of the starter not withdraw far enough back to start with, so can not cleanly disengage from the ring gear correctly. Hell have seen them so bad, they engage the ring gears when installed, so always going to be spinning if the motor is started.
Also to point out, in most cases, problem has nothing to do with starter motor to being with, only the solenoid ring and contacts burnt out, and since you can buy a new starter solenoid for $20, it alone replaced on the starter, is all that is needed and don't run into the bendex problems of a rebuilt starter motor isntead.
