I am considering a 2008 C6 Z06. The engine was replaced in 2015 with a factory LS7. My question is, did GM fix the valve drop problem with replacement engines? Thanks in advance
That's a resounding no, GM never admitted there was a problem in the entire run, crate, replacement, and 2014-15 z28 motors included. Fix the heads and sleep well at night.
Cost in todays dollars for having the heads fixed is 4 to 5K. So I would take that into consideration in your negociation. Chances are the seller won't like taking that hit, and if so I personanly would walk away. Good luck in your decision.

They did admit there was a problem (at least their Customer Service rep did here), but they claimed they fixed the problem in 2011 moving forward. This we know to be false.
Back in 2015, General Motors agreed to pay $900 million as part of a Justice Department investigation into its failure to fix a deadly ignition-switch defect blamed for more than 180+ deaths. Federal prosecutors hit GM with a wire-fraud charge and a charge for "engaging in a scheme to conceal a deadly safety defect" from regulators. So instead of fixing a 57 cent ignition switch, GM hid the problem and refused to fix it, all while people were crashing and dying.
If GM was in charge of the Titanic. GM would have issued a statement to the passengers that everything is fine, all while the ship was sinking into the ocean.
GM is currently doing the "GM shuffle" in regards to the C8 and the DCT transmission catastrophic failure issues they are having.
So the answer is NO, like many above have stated. GM did not address the valve train issue in the LS7, even in 2015. You will have to spend another $5k to have the heads removed and fixed. That needs to be taken into account for the price of the car. If you don't fix the heads and the valve drops, you will be looking at $15k+ to replace the engine.
Thanks for the replies. I may still buy it. As an engine builder/machinist I can fix the heads for the cost of parts. I will exchange the sodium filled valves with Inconel or extreme black exhaust valves. Also will replace guides and perform an accurate job valve. He is asking $33,000.

That's pretty low for a Z06, I'm assuming a lot of miles?

Thats a dang good price and if you can do the work, it's a no brainer..
