I posted in another section about maybe getting a ‘13 427 w/40k miles on it and everyone is like go for it, but all those horror stories about the LS7 keeps my mind occupied.
It's all a risk tolerance. If it scares you, don't buy a 427 and get a GS. The 427 is likely the most collectible Corvette of the modern era (outside maybe manual C7 ZR1).
I wouldn't buy one, but that's because I don't like soft tops.
$90K. That's $30K more than I paid for my 2010 ZR1 in 2019. I'd sooner buy another ZR1.
Precisely why I have a Grand Sport that cost me all of $40K after TT&L. I have no problem drilling holes in it, modifying it, driving the hell out of it, etc. Of course, if I had more money than I knew what to do with, then I'd consider one of these (maybe).

Budget an additional $3-5k to get the heads fixed.

If you're afraid it's going to go BOOM then don't do it. I've had mine for going on 5 years and so far all I've had is fun.
You can't just say that and not say what you think will be! Lol
The Carbon Edition is more collectable than the '13 427, imo.

Not yet. I bought a new M2 at the end of November & spent money on some accessories for that. Now I'm spending $ updating a '03 Wrangler my son purchased last year. He just got his driver's permit. The Wrangler is a sweet 2-owner, all stock, & in great condition.
We just had to replace the oil pan because he snapped the bolt off re-torquing it after an oil change . Good lesson to learn. I want to make sure everything is in top shape when he starts driving. Replaced the headlights with LEDs, new wheels & tires, going to replace the brakes, and go through the suspension, steering rack, replace the exhaust, etc. Long story to say that's where my $ for the Archangels is going
That and all 4 of my vehicles needed tires last year - that would've paid for the Archangels and then some.
Every car you buy is taking a leap of faith and a risk. You can sit and talk yourself out of it and never enjoy it, or you can go for it and find that you made the best decision ever. Your choice. Me, I'm loving every mile.

It's certainly rarer, but I think the fact that the 427 is the last big motor very with a manual tips it over the edge. I can get why you'd say the carbon edition is more collectible though. By that same token I would say the centennial edition GS manual coupes are more collectible still. :P

As both a vette and Jeep (16 JKU) owner I can say what I believe JEEP actually means... Just Empty Every Pocket! I’ve poured money into my Jeep the past 3 years and finally got it where I want it. Was a 1 owner completely stock with 11,000 miles and looked like it just rolled off the showroom! Of course I needed to immediately start modding everything it for no valid reason other then there’s so much you can do to Jeeps. Bottom line I hope your son enjoys and appreciates his Jeep and it treats him well. They are still a very fun vehicle to drive imo.
Becasue my wife and I are soft-top people, and we both drive a stick, the 427 would have fit well with us except for the price of one. We settled for an almost new 2013 GS soft-top, only 12,570 miles, and optioned exactly as we wanted. It does have an automatic which works just as well for us. The same in 427 fashion would have been untouchable. The 436HP of the GS with NPP Dual-Mode Exhaust is more than plenty already for us two people who joy ride around town and in the country. If I just had to have more HP, a supercharger is always an option.....but that's not me.

The Carbons consistently sell for more than both the 427s & Centennials. I'm not saying it's more collectible because I own one, I'm saying it because there were only 252 produced, individually numbered and had all the components of the ZR1 with the LS7. There have also been quite a few totaled that I've seen leaving fewer available. Inferno Orange is more collectible than Supersonic Blue at only 85 made compared to 166. Rick Hendrick's #252 in Black would be extremely collectible.
If we wanted to get into specialty vehicles, there are only 3 Callaway Carbon Editions .
The 427s are cool, but I'm not a convertible person, so I have no interest.

We've had ~10 Jeeps over the years. Sold our '16 JKU two years ago when we ordered a '22 JLU. Waited almost 10 months for the JLU to arrive and it sat in a shipping yard with no eta, so we passed on it. I'm sure he'll get many years of enjoyment from his TJ.
My wife loves her 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4, but I am the one constantly fixing it from the day we bought it with 29,000 miles and 3 years old. As cthusker says, JEEP actually means... Just Empty Every Pocket! So far I have managed to do all the work myself saving 10's of thousands of dollars during the 66,000 miles we added to the odometer. Today it has only 95,000 miles but with all my repairs of many sorts, it should have 400,000 miles.
