I currently need a new battery. The dealer was uncertain if I needed a Group 85 or 90.
I have a 2012 Centennial Grand Sport automatic.
it could not be determined based on the vin as to which battery I needed. There currently is a replacement battery in the car, however, I don't know if it is the correct one...
any assistance would be appreciated.
thx

If that Chevrolet dealer can't figure out what battery goes in a Chevrolet. run away, stay away, and find a dealer or shop that actually knows what they are doing.
I've had good luck with Optima RedTop. Search your Vette's requirements here. Buy it at Advance Auto, or any auto store that offers a good warranty/return policy. You can compare the RedTop to the YellowTop. I like the Red since it weighs less and works for my 2010 Vette's needs. https://www.optimabatteries.com/prod...BoC32kQAvD_BwE

Haven't been a fan of Optima since JCI bought them and moved production to Mexico. I had 2 bad ones in a row (1st wouldn't hold a charge in less than 2 years; warranty replacement shot craps with same issue in less than a year) shortly after production was moved. From complaints I have seen, the quality problems still exist today.
I can tell you for a fact that an ACDelco 88866263 fits perfectly in my ‘11 GS A6. Group 90. 42 month warranty. I put it in there myself. Can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t fit in your GS.

I would be so far away from that Chevy dealer it wouldn't be funny.
The battery in the car now should have a sticker with the size on it. After you figure out the size from that or other responses forget the dealer and just go to Costco.
Pretty sure 90 is for dry sump. 85 is for wet sump.
Well, all I can say is that there’s a group 90 battery sitting in the tray up front in my wet sump GS as I noted above. It fits and clamps perfectly into the tray, so unless a PO replaced the OEM tray, it is what it is. And the previous battery that was in there which also fit and clamped perfectly was an ACDelco 88865290 group 85, so in my case both groups 85 and 90 fit.
The size difference in an 85 and 90 are minimal on length and width (less than 1/4 inch). The main difference is the height (about an inch taller on the 85). They both should fit in the battery try without issue. The issue is going to be cables clamping securly and the hood closing, but neither should be an issue.
The OEM clamps were/are plenty tight on both batteries. The ‘trick’ I used was to back the conical nut right off and use a socket wide enough to clear the post to the bottom and use that and a plastic tipped hammer to gently tap the clamp down onto the post. Then a bit of dielectric grease on the bottom and slot of the washer before tightening the nut. Lots of cursing at those clamps but they will work quite well and less chance of accidental arc welding because you tighten from above, not sideways.

Wasn't saying it wouldn't fit, just indicating what battery GM said is the correct one.
Not really different than my adapting a marine starting battery into my John Deere 5205 tractor because I didn't care for the threaded stud connectors on the OEM battery. I also had to put regular battery terminals on the cables to replace the ring terminals. Just had to find a battery that fit in the OEM tray and had proper CCA and RC. Bonus was it was considerably cheaper than a regular OEM type replacement.
My '08 C-6 takes a 85/35 group Batt. This battery fits two group sizes. The 85 group size is not a tall as the group 35, which is why it comes with a spacer that you remove for your application. According to the FSM, it takes a Group 85 Batt. this is quoting the '08 FSM and a front mounted Batt. , not trunk mounted.
