Default C6 Steering Angle Sensor

New queston, how can I correct SAS without spending $1350 on a scan tool? I get a code for steering wheel not centered when it is, I'm thinking there is a DIY fix. Thanks for any help, my scan tool says wheel is not centered but it's not a bidirectional tool so I can't reset the sensor. 2006 C6

Every scan tool operation in the factory service manual is performed with a Tech 2. Tech 2 clones are $300-ish. There are also PC-hosted tools like the VCX Nano where you run a Tech 2 in emulation.

The steering wheel sensor does not correct. It either reads Zero if the steering wheel is straight (wheel indexes to shaft, so no getting that wrong), or goes positive if the wheel is turned to the right, or negative if the wheel is turned to the left.

So during alignment, wheel is kept straight so sensor reads Zero, and tires aligned to that. If such is not the case, then tire rods need to be adjusted, to get the wheel pointing forward, while the steering wheel is kept straight/sensor reading zero.

So simply, need a reader that can read down to body level of the car, and has the needed pid to be able to read the voltage output to EBCM of the steering wheel sensor.

And to add, off Zero of the steering wheel senor, you have about a spin and a half of the wheel from their either way, until you either distroy the clock spring or sensor. I bring this up, since if you are going too pull the coupling off the rack, make sure to demobile the steering wheel so it not spun, and suport the end coupler once loose, so it not pulled outward to pull the steering wheel sensor out of it socket in the column.

Here the sensor and it parts have been pulled out of the upper socket for them, and to get it back in, the entire column will need to be pulled from the car.
