Lots of steering wheel issues on this board right now it seems and here's mine: I have a 2011 Grand Sport convertible with a squeaky stereing wheel. When the steering wheel is turned in either direction it emits a grinding type squeak -- like rubber material rubbing up against something. Anyone have any idea what the cause is? How to fix it?
Well, to fully "cure", I'd say prepare to remove the steering wheel.
It may also be prudent to remove the panels so you can inspect the steering column all the way to the firewall.
Could be a misalignment, dirt buildup, lack of grease, part failure.
The two parts I have seen listed for steering wheel issues are the clock spring and turn signal stalk.
In regard to the column, the bearing and steering wheel sensor have been mentioned as "issues".
I also recall the column's plastic shields/ surrounds, protective panels can rub and cause a squeak,
Grind is a concerning word
A stepping stone may be to spray some lubricant into column gaps.
I do not know what part to suggest that may be damaged and pre-purchased before disassembly.
I recently had a squeak from the steering wheel that came a few months after swapping in a 2012 wheel. It had loosened on me apparently I didn't have it set right or it wasn't tight enough. I reinstalled and the squeak went away. Spraying lube just gets it on your interior for me anyway. Strangely enough, for a few months the steering wheel volume controls failed and then repaired themselves , weird.
