Agreed, but IMHO and experience, the juice is not worth the squeeze to pay $500-1200 for a custom tune for a stock/stockish car to make 10-15whp
I think OP should think this one out more
To be fair, what mod are you gonna spend $500 on and make more than 10-15hp? The best bang for the **** is catless headers... But then you need a tune for the CEL lol.

$500 is on the cheap side. Sadly there are tuners that charge $1200 for custom tunes.
You dont “need” a tune for the cel, but if you don’t want to look at the cel, yes a tune will remediate that if the tuner is willing to do so.
Guess I’ll stick with the power I have. When will I grow up!!!?!?! 😂
Yea, there is no free power in an NA car. And any gains you will get are typically minimal. Longtubes like Fauee said are one of the best bangs for the buck though. 10-15 who gains here and there though are nominal imho.
I did not dyno my car stock, but I did after my longtubes and cai and tune. The car made 421/444 on a 95* day. So if they make 360-380whp stock, that’s a 40-60whp gain most of which being from the long tubes.
Tbh, these cars have more than enough power. The best bang for the buck is attending a performance driving school/course. Learn how to better use the power you already have. I've always found it more fun driving a less powerful car at 8-9/10 than driving a more powerful car at 5-6/10.
One of the most fun cars to drive was my Fiat 500, because I could basically drive it around 10/10 all the time.

Ya know, you’re right!!! There’s a track not to far from me. I may just do that. Yes, she’s a GS with an aftermarket cold air induction and Borla exhaust. Fast enough!!!

@JABCAT is a wise man! I second his suggestion. Just remember what the car was built for and give it a whirl on a track. You will find real quickly the car will likely outdrive your skill level and then that’s when the fun starts.
My favorite car out of all that I've had was a Mini Cooper S, R53 with the supercharged motor and a 6 speed. 168hp of fun all the time. I literally would hop in it over my C4 and C6 GS because it made literally every drive a blast.
When I say that I still keep looking for a 6 speed R53 JCW with chrono, auto AC, pano roof, HK, and a good color, I mean it. Like I would sell my GS to make room for.it lol.
Some of the so-called performance "chips" like Rocket Chips could possibly cause engine damage. I've read that it could cause detonation as it attempts to change timing. Detonation can hammer the pistons and cause upper rod bearing wear/damage and piston damage.
