I have a 2009 c6 7.0liter so I incorrectly checked the oil dipstick and seen ther was no oil on the dipstick so i mistakenly thought the oil was low, so i added 3 qts is what it took for the oil to register on the full mark of the dipstick. Not realizing that i overfilled it with the 3 quarts when i fired up the car i instantly seen oil over flowing out of the moroso oil catch can filter on top of the can...then i did my research on how to properly check the dip stick so what i did at this point, i drained all the oil, the two drain plugs and oil filter under the car.. I got a new oil filter and new oil, i installed the new oil filter, poored the proper amount of oil in, then i went to start the car to warm it up to do the proper dipstick check and right away i seen more oil coming out of the catch can filter, this time was not as much but still came out, my question is do i need to drain that catch can of the oil thats in it? Or whats going on here thanks
I’m not trying to be sarcastic, but unless the catch can can empty itself somehow, how else does it get emptied? There’s always oil collecting in my Elite can when I drive the car, but I empty it at every oil change and the most that’s ever been in it is half full. And you sure don’t want a sudden surge of any liquid into the intake because you could hydro lock the engine. So first thing, empty that can. As to what, if any, damage may have already occurred, that’s beyond my pay grade.
