Default Catch Can?...

I have a 2013 GS w and A&A kit which was installed over 10k miles ago. Recently for the 1st time we discovered oil coming through vent hose from dry sump and building up in air filter.
Im trying to understand how this works. Why would this start happening now after 1000s of miles? I do mostly Mountain driving, no track, no racing.

The LS engines are port injected and a catch can is usually unnecessary as any returning oil will get burned up just fine. What do you mean building up in the air filter? The PCV system currently routes it into the intake manifold. Doesn't sound like a normal issue so would agree you may want to speak to A&A about your kit.

EDIT: thanks Rod yeah meant oil

"Fuel?" I think the Catch Can is for the oil that blows past the PCV and pools in the intake manifold. Mighty Mouse seems to be the way to go there. At least, that's the rumor I heard.

With NA there is 99% of the time a vacuum to draw pressure from the crank case via PCV. With FI you don't have a vacuum during boost, quite the opposite, so there is no way to depressurize the crankcase. Especially if you are at altitude, you are more likely to pressurize crank case with respect to ambient. This can have ill effects on gaskets etc.

So Id be reviewing your PCV system, you could vent to air etc depending on legality. Or run scavenge pump, etc.

Thanks for the info. My shop is saying install catch cans. Still strange to me that for 1000s of miles I never saw oil and now do. Car pulls hard and feels great. Ive revved it to redline before but generally baby the car. My tuner has it set with a pretty safe tune. I cant imagine there is anything wrong.

Absolutely catch cans! On a supercharged setup, I think you would benefit from one on each side of the crankcase ventilation system.

One catch can will attach between the valley cover and the intake manifold, right behind the throttle body. My car is stock under the hood, and I use this setup. I usually get a couple ounces of oil out of it when draining. Also, there is no PCV on our LS3, just a fixed orifice in the valley cover outlet.

The other catch can would go between the oil tank and the air bridge/air filter area, pre supercharger. This should keep the oil from getting into your air filter.

Default Catch can works well

This catch can works well with the A & A S/C and ported and polished heads, Belanger Custom Tri-Y Headers and exhaust.
