Default LS2 Head Questions

Ok so the research I’ve done it said that the LS2 can use the LS1, LS6 or as well as L92-style heads, which includes LS3 and LS9 heads but what I’m unsure is what people prefer using on there LS2 and why, also it would be for a N/A build nothing crazy since it would be future project and if you have a place you know I can get said head without using a arm and a lead would be great thank you for the help

LS3 reman heads at 900 for a pair on ebay. Grab a Fast intake and cam kit of your choice and youre g2g. Can reuse your current headers since all 4th gen LS heads have the same exhaust ports.

It is a no brainer if you consider trick 243 heads are like 3grand for the pair and barely have an advantage on the top end (more so on the low end - valve shrouding advantage blah blah).

You can also sell your old 243 heads and intake to recoup some cost. I think I had this all priced out to be ~4500 in parts starting with a bone stock ls2/t56 vette. The headers are the most expensive component. Should put you above 500 no problem.

So LS2's have a big enough bore to be able to use the LS3 style head. An LS2 shares 243 heads with the LS6, These are what are considered a Cathedral Port, or Gen 3 head. In roughly 08ish (theirs some funky crossover stuff there on G8s) GM went to whats considered the Rectangle Port head (or LS3 style). A stock LS3 head will outflow a lot of aftermarket Gen 3 (LS1/LS2/LS6) heads so its a preferable swap. This isn't an option for the LS1/LS6 guys because their bore size isn't big enough for the valves. LS3 heads became a popular swap on the LS2's because they flow better than some of the aftermarket options and are about half the price (don't get me wrong, theirs aftermarket Gen 3 heads that will outflow the stock LS3s but their big money options). The downside is you'll loose a bit of compression. I would say if you have an LS2 car and your considering the swap just keep in mind that you'll need to change your intake manifold to an LS3 style as well. The Cathedral style intake ports wont work with the Rectangular LS3 ports. They make adapters but it raises the intake and adds another potential failure point so I'd say it be better to just pick up an LS3 intake. The LS3 Rectangular style port also shares the same style porting as the LSA/LS9 motors so an LSA blower will bolt right up to an LS3 style head. Another reason a lot of LS2 guys make the swap (The LS9 blower will as well but the accessory drives make that a whole other can of worms I wont get into.)
