Does anyone have a line on a NIB AC compressor, GM part number 19418176. I've scanned the parts section and found nothing. I'd rather not go aftermarket, but things aren't looking good on locating one. The GM Parts Online have it backordered until hell freezes over. it is the same part number for both 2012 Grand Sport and Z06. Thanks!
I don’t know if any of them would ship to the US, and what the total cost end to end would be, but if they would ship it, total cost is bound to be a lot more.
Everywhere I have researched is on backorder including Canada, Amazon. None on eBay. I think that I am dealing with a discontinued part. I still hope to find a new, old stock gathering dust in someone's parts department.
Probably need to find out what the minor differences are for the different year GM parts. May be able to use some other compressor. Read through this thread which shows some superseded numbers. GM Online sites state your number replaces 89018650, 89019260, 89019338. Find an older number still available.
Four Seasons aftermarket is a good brand, and it looks like they say one compressor fits all years.
Remember to replace the condenser when swapping compressors.
I dont understand how the condenser having an integrated component necessitates the need to replace it when the only failed component is the compressor. If the compressor failed in a fashion where the impeller disintegrated into the entire cooling system, which is common when the system is ran for long periods without refrigerant (i.e., a leak), then it would make sense.
The filter screen you linked a picture of is for the low side and should protect the condenser in the event I just described - I agree it is a good idea to replace it, but adding an extra 20% cost in parts (the condenser) onto the job doesnt make sense.
1) The screen I mentioned IS on the HIGH side. See #11 in pic. Is in high side line from condenser to evaporator, which is where it becomes low side at the expansion valve. In the refrigerant flow, this filter is placed AFTER the condenser, NOT before .#18 is the high side port cap for gauges.
2) It is general consensus (at least to us old-timers) that you replace a receiver-dryer in an ac system when relacing the compressor. The receiver on a C6 is integral with the condenser.
3) How do you determine how much trash is dispersed into an ac system when a compressor fails?
4) I found a condenser for my 07 for $20.70 so they don't have to be cost prohibitive.
5) Do and express opinions as you want....I am just expressing mine, based on that I have done ac repairs for many years and am someone who has replaced a dirty C6 high side filter screen.
Years back the A/C Compressor seized on my Ford truck, granted not a Vette but i had it replaced with an aftermarket Compressor not because of unavailability of a Ford Compressor but aftermarket was a lot cheaper, the aftermarket compressor worked perfect for many years with no issues.
