Hello everyone. New here. 2007 c6 conv. So LS2 is overheating. Fan clicks on approx. 210-15 degrees but temp keeps rising. Up to 250 yesterday trying to make it home. Hoses hot and hard when running. Air coming through fan is cool. Ideas on problem are much appreciated. Stuck thermostat?
If the overheating happened more or less suddenly and if the AC system continued to function normally, you’re down to a few possibilities
Stuck thermostat
Obstruction such as a plastic bag sucked up in front of the rad.
Broken / really loose belt
Major coolant leak
Water pump failure (if that were possible)
Not likely an air pocket since that shouldn’t cause that much overheating.

yes happened suddenly. Ac works fine. Belt looks good. Guess I'll try new thermostat. Where is it anyway? I'm an old guy not used to these rocketship looking engines !!! Tks for reply

Another old guy here. It’s not going to be as easy as it was on the old Chevy small blocks where the t-stat sat up top under the gooseneck.
I don’t think your LS2 will be that different from my LS3, and the thermostat fits under the housing on the face of the water pump. Here’s a pic of the pump without the housing that was in my car.
I’d say it’s pretty clear where the thermostat and housing go, along with a gasket. Just make sure you get the right thermostat because there are at least 2 that are year specific. And remember, every 20 minute job is one broken bolt away from a 2 week ordeal.

Air pocket is unlikely unless he did something that would allow in in the system. But if there is an air pocket the pump can lose its prime and overheat.
Your lower radiator hose connects to the thermostat housing. At operating temperature check the temp of the lower radiator hose as it should feel very warm to the touch, but not scalding like the upper radiator hose, if the thermostat is open. If both are relatively cool to warm, then suspect a thermostat stuck closed or severely restricted problem.

tks for all replies. I just retired and bought a 07 vette about a month ago. Pretty sure thermostat went bad. It's just a trip walking from my 1968 C-10 p/u over to the vette. Different world so pls excuse my ignorance sometimes !!! Do we REALLY need all those wires and hoses ?
Never a problem on this forum. We all have to start somewhere. If you have some mechanical skills changing the thermostat is a reasonable fix. Let us know if this cures the over heating.
Newbie advice: be careful with the thermostat seal when installing, It can get off a little when working in the tight space and a drip,,drip shows up when you think you are done.
Also the fan control is a PWM module....the hotter car is, the harder the fan blows. Make sure the cooling fan is roaring full blast (getting the proper signal from the module) when temp is high.
