Sooooo, got a roofing nail in the corner of the left rear of my 2011 Grand Sport. Its right where the tread meets the sidewall so no one would touch it; I get it.
Tires are two years and 10k miles old. Question is, do I replace all of them? I know its not a good idea to just replace the one with a new tire so... Thoughts?
Btw, they are Michelin all season run-flats, stock sizes.
That sucks. I would look at the thread depth of the right rear tire and see how worn it is. If it is in decent shape just buy 1 tire. Worst case I'd just replace the rear tires.
Gauge the tread on the good rear, and see if still have plenty off tread life to get you to the 6 year mark still, or should be replaced the same time as the other rear.
As for nail, guessing did not get road hazard warranty, and why is not being replaced for free.
Also, on Sumner performance tires, only get about 10K on the rears, double on the front, so if those type tires where in play, then would be about the same time to replace the rears anyway, Hence to get say 20K out of a set of summer performance tires, going to pay for two sets of rears, and only the one set of the fronts. And as pointed out, rubber on tires/them start to go out of round starts to happen at the 6 year mark, where you want to replace the tires. I bring this up, since if your running A/S tires to get more life out of them, may not be he case, since can age out before the treads on them are gone.
Tires were on the car when I bought it, so no warranty. The RR has between 7 and 8/32 left; I'm seriously considering just replacing the one. Anyone see any probs with that?
That is what I would do.You may be able to find a nice used one with similar tread depth to replace it with.Too much tread remaining to just replace them all.Just be sure and watch the date code on a used one.
Pretty much what I was thinking; just a little impatient to wait for the right used one. lol
Even if I did replace em all, I'd have mothballed the other three; but... money being what it is, I'll probly just replace the one.
If it was me, I would likely replace just the one tire as long as there wasn't more than say about 20% wear. More than that and I would likely replace both the rears but keep the existing fronts.
If you were going to go with a different tire, I'd replace all as a set.
