2012 gas cap
My 2013 gas cap does the same, yet I don't yet get a warning light. I hate that thing. I am tempted to take it apart and glue it together so it never clicks. If it is a bust, then I will buy a new one.
Had the same problem with mine. I purchased my 2013 in 2016 and the gas cap always went on loose and didn't seem to tighten although I never received a code. Looking at the cap, I noticed it wasn't constructed like my other cars, where the cap literally screws on, tightens and then clicks. The Vette cap doesn't have threads and the fuel neck only has two graded ridges to allow the cap to tighten with a 90 degree turn and then clicks. I purchased a new cap and it was resistant to rotate due to friction from the rubber seal contacting the filler neck. I applied some dielectric grease and then was successful in tightening with a 90 degree turn and click. It felt solid with no movement and I was happy with the new cap...UNTIL I needed a state inspection where the gas cap is removed and tested to hold a vacuum. The technician proceeded to install the cap and turn until she broke the spring and rachet assembly built into the cap. Now it works just like the original. Of course, I didn't realize this until several days later when I needed to fill up.

Seal or clicker?
IF seal, before you install the next one, might want to use some silcone grease on the seal O ring, to condition it and allow it to last longer. If you want to go a step farther, its just a O type ring seal in the caps U groove, so can hook under the seal to remove it from the cap with pick tool, clean/silicone grease it to condition the seal and allow it to last longer, then put the seal back in place in the U groove.

As for clicker part, when installing cap after fueling, only go one click past tight, since the entire design is kind of a joke to begin with, and the plastic used for the clicker, will age out itself .If push comes to shove, can pull the gas cap apart to heat bend the white parts clicker engagements teeth out more, since they will age and shrink in over time to , but with the oem caps about $10 on amazon, just replace the cap when the clicker part becomes the problem.

I suggest you buy this one. It has the lanyard connector that actually fits and snaps in the gas cap door, and it solidly clicks when tightened. I tried a couple of others, including the part numbers on rockauto and the "fits" one on Amazon - the lanyard never fit the hole, wouldn't snap in place.
This the correct one for our Corvettes. Mine is a 2011. $20, not worth fiddling with old one or others!
Hope it helps!

The Stant failed on me within 3 months. I actually could not remove it. would spin and spin. I had enough fuel to make it back home. Drive a screw threw the first layer and grab a bit of the 2nd layer. Now I can tighten as much as I want lol.
That's interesting. I couldn't get an OEM to last for than a couple months. I got a Stant and that lasted over 10 years. I got a check engine light recently(Gas cap) and not wanting to bother with another OEM, I got a Gates cap since I couldn't remember the part number for the Stant. Another check engine light. Got the Stant and no issue since. Seals really well. Noticeably better that the other ones I used. I fueled up yesterday and had to really crank it to get it off. I don't think I'd use anything else at this point.
