Hello all,
I have a '13 GS and was reading about loose axle nuts causing a clicking sound. My car has developed a click after a 3-2 downshift and sometimes 4-3. It's only a single click once I let out the clutch and then not another sound. Seems to be coming from left rear. My question is how can the axle nut become loose with this nut?
You have the new design axle nut. With the old design it is a problem with loose axle nuts, my 2006 with 6k miles and my 2008 with 15k miles all had loose axle nuts on the passenger side which did cause a rear clicking sound noise. Replaced with new GM axle nuts and problem solved.
Generally the clicking sound will be at slower speeds while turning, I had a friends 2007 that had the loose nut problem and the spindles were not cut like yours so you could not bend the nuts to try to stop them from loosening, SInce you have a latter model, Gm may have tried to fix or eliminate the problem by doing this. It was just crazy to not make the spindles with cotter pins like in the day!!
