I'll happily be the bunny any day of the year.

And I assure you, the people we vote into office have nothing to do with setting the speed limit.

Old school Valentine 1 v1. Used of course. I’ve had it since June . So far it has saved me twice. RIP Mr.Valentine. Since the age of 18, I have been pulled over 25-35 times. Many long stories, however,it took me a while to figure this out, show respect for the police, and don’t lie. They’ve heard it all. Honest has probably got me just a warning 45% of the time.

You go! I used to feel I always had to go faster than everyone else. Fortunately I got over that.

I've used nothing but Mike Valentine's products for decades. From the original Escorts to the Passports to the V1's. He truly was a genius, RIP.

I have used the following 4 prong method for years and have never been stopped while using all 4.

1. Radar detector (I'm using the uniden R7 at the moment)
2. The Waze app on my phone ( drivers ahead of you will mark where the po-po are)
3. Laser jammer (not legal in all states, but neither is speeding. Radar detectors are useless against laser guns, if your radar detector indicates laser just pull over the cop already has your speed.)
4. A Bunny! How to use a Bunny, I start out on the highway about 5 mph over the limit until someone faster passes me, He is now the Bunny! Fall in behind him keeping him in sight, follow him until someone passes you at the higher speed, he is now the bunny, I keep this up until I get a bunny doing a speed I like. The Idea is the Po-Po will turn on his radar to get a speed on the Bunny and your radar detector will go off and you can slow to the speed limit and wave to the bunny when you pass him when he's stopped by the nice officer doing his job. ( always remember the police do not set the speed limits the people you voted into office do.)

The following is very important, See the Bunny, be one with the Bunny, never be the Bunny!!!
I've always used the "bunny" method! Even passed my "bunny" pulled over more than once. Except I call it a safety blanket...
I'll add a #5 and advocate a bump to the top: Get a CDL, keep a CDL. In my experience (and my dad's for decades before that), cops are generally less likely to ticket a driver for whom a ticket could ostensibly impact their livelihood. Never tested it in the vette though.

Anyone know is the V1 gen 1 can be updated? They any good nowadays? A V1 Gen2 is way out of my budget (can't believe they are over $800).

**Update** so the update is really a discounted trade in for a new unit. Probably should have gone to their website first but it is early here and I haven't had my coffee. Saw a pre-owned Gen 1 for a few hundred on ebay but if I buy that and then spend $450 on the "upgrade" I'm at the price of a Gen 2.

V1 Gen2 is $599. It’s fantastic with JBV1.

When I initially looked on Ebay for a used or NOS V1 gen 1 I saw gen 2s for $800ish, didn't realize the Gen 2 was so competitively priced. I'm not a drive 120 on the highway guy, been busted once for doing 114 in a 70 in my old Caddy just after I got it, was 100% truthful with the trooper and without asking he knocked it down to 84 in a 70. Was grateful for the break.

I run the R8 in my DD. Then the v1 Gen2 in the Corvette. I had an R3 for a couple years. A great budget detector but no arrows. Once you have arrows it’s hard to go back.

Before you buy the one on ebay, get the serial number from it. I have a V1 that is OLD. But still works great. I was considering the upgrade rebate for a new one. Then one day I checked again. Apparently mine is too old now to even qualify for the the upgrade rebate

I had the Valentine V1 for a number of years, and then I did the trade up to a Gen 2. It's well worth the expense, has given me plenty of advance notice so that the cost is justified by not getting a ticket. Only issue is that the mount I used on the Gen 1 didn't fit the Gen 2 properly, so I had to buy a new mount (under $20) which keeps it securely positioned under the rear view mirror. Yeah, the K band frequencies can be annoying in traffic Those speed limit feedback signs are a PITA, but the police specific radar band gives off a unique tone that I instantly recognize. I think it's money well spent for those interstate road trips.

I bought my V1 Gen 2 directly from the Valentine site for $600

Passport 9500ix, been using mine in 2 cars for the last 8 years. Comes with GPS that (with a subscription, $50 for 3 years) alerts you to red light cameras, speed traps, etc. Originally (8 years ago) it was $500, now down to around $300.

Default Uniden R4

I picked up a Uniden R4 from Sam’s club earlier this year when it was on sale. I am amazed at how far away it picks up the different radars and from 360°. Great option at a reasonable price.

Within that budget the Escort Max 4 is pretty good and very quiet on false alarms for blind spot monitoring on other cars etc; the escort app works good too and is free, allows more customization etc. If you buy it from Escort they will pay for a speeding ticket if you get one for 1 year (with some limits, no reckless driving, etc)

I recently bought a Radenso DS1 on sale (under $300) and am very impressed how quiet it is but still picks up at long ranges, over the hill etc as good as much higher end detectors.
