Obviously I’m new here. This is my first ever Vette. I’m located in New Braunfels Texas.
I just picked up my 2012 GS yesterday and I’m extremely happy with it. I came from a 2017 Focus RS. It’s nice to be in a legit fast car again. I know it’s it not a C8 Z06 but it’s new to me and it’s been a life long dream to own a Vette.
It has the headlight issue going on. My question is should I do a set of Vette lights painted arctic white with clear side markers and clear tail lights or do all black lights? I’m thinking I’m going to keep the stock wheels.
Welcome, and enjoy your new ride living your dream.
I would leave it stock for now, learn more about the car before upgrading.
Your headlight problem there is safety recall for headlights, might want to check it at dealership?
I should have specified. It’s the normal UV damage to the headlights that vehicles from this era are all prone to developing. I will check with the dealer though. Thank you for the advice!!
Hey FNG, great choice for a first Corvette! Even though I am totally prejudiced, she is a beauty. And a big welcome to yet another Texan on the Forum. You live in a cool part of the state and should be able to get in a lot of outstanding drives. Enjoy the Forum for all that it offers, enjoy your new GS, and enjoy the Corvette lifestyle.
Welcome & Congratz on the sweet new ride.. moving you here for further discussion.. check out morimoto C7 headlights and taillights. I think you'll like them lot's of great folks here to bounce ideas off of.
Welcome. I can tell you're in the parking lot of La Cantera by Fiesta Texas. (see the Super Man ride in the background).
First, you picked the best color for a GS., not that I'm biased or anything. LOL.
I too have a '12 GS. I switched from the white headlight buckets to black headlights. I switched the chrome GS badge on the side to black. Had black Z06 Spyder wheels for a long time, then put 19"/20" Cup Wheels, vinyl on the white top and halo.
I bought some used black headlights and then sent them to info@umnitza.com to have new clear lenses put on them. I'm not a fan of the C7 or C8 headlights on a C6, but that's my taste.

Check out this thread....it has some photos of a white GS w/ the clear side markers...
What's up, FNG. JAFO here. Welcome from a fellow Texan.
I have the paint-matched Morimoto C7 style from Umnitza, and I love the look. They weren't cheap, though (and took a long time to get here with the added time involved in the paint process). I also have the Morimoto XB Gen 2 tail lights to balance them out.
Welcome......the advice to look at a lot of details before you do too much "upgrading" is right on.....also, there is great advice on this forum. It's saved me literally thousands of dollars over the last 3 1/2 years while rebuilding a salvaged 07 LS7 S/C'd narrow body. Personally, I am not a fan of the OEM headlights. They remind me of bugs eyes (my personal opinion), and the upgrade to the Morimoto's changed the look of my car from mundane and outdated to modern without the bug eye look. The great thing about owning the Vette that you have is that if you don't do anything to the car it's still a beauty. It's your car (obviously) and do whatever you want if it makes you happy. Love the looks and the performance of the Morimoto's......absolutely no comparison to the OEMs Why the Vertical doors? It makes it much easier for this 75 year old guy with a "difficult" knee to get in and out.
Congrats on the new ride!
If helpful at all, here's a shot of one of our customer's cars with color matched c8-style headlights and matching morimoto fog lights for a more updated factory feel. Personally, I love the color matched look and run that style on my atomic orange C6Z but black headlights/accents certainly add a more aggressive look if that is more of the desired look. Either way, can't go wrong! -More Info
