When the phone is paired the call button doesn't do anything. I can answer a call and end a call but cannot make a call from the steering wheel controls.

push and hold in call button, you should get instruction on phone , Saying (how do you want to complete this action) I chose google, but can be bixby if you use bixby. Than on phone chose remember my choice or something like that it says.

once done when you push call voice assistant will start you an tell it to call, askitfor directions, ask it anything you would on phone alone.

Guess what’s confusing for me and maybe you,it’s not really a call button but voice assistant.

Sort of like google on android is like on star was originally in car.

im betting there is a way in phone to just make button push phone only. But really why do that, you can push button and say take me to Burger King. Lol

your welcome, I just figured it out the other day, when you posted, never took the time, I always just used buttons for radio and radio to answer and call. I may start using the Call/google button now. 😊

I figured out the problem. My installer is an idiot. He can't get this right and on top of that the radio sux. Besides the phone buttons not working the sound cuts out while streaming. I told him this and he insisted the radio was fine. He told me I can only answer and end calls from the steering wheel buttons but it's supposed to work with voice commands and it doesn't. I got the car home after 3 trips to his shop over the course of 3 weeks and it still doesn't work. So I'm going to buy another radio, harness and install it myself. I'm not an idiot and I can't do any worse than this jabroni.

I'd love to hear your recommendations on what to buy. I just want to stream, use the phone with steering wheel controls and have my aps available. I don't care about great sound quality because I drive with the top down 99% of the time and I also don't care about bells and whistle. I just want it to work.

Thx.

Well that came to my mind also, but I didn’t want to insult your choice of an installer.

Go to Crutchfield dot com and order a Kenwood DMX7709S, PAC RP5-GM11, Metra 95-3304, and their ReadyHarness. Should be about $475 shipped.

Give a call to crutchfield and tell them your situation. I installed myself Kenwood and followed all the instructions from them and from videos on youtube.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. This can't be that difficult.

Update: I followed the advice of many here and I bought a Kenwood Radio and all the wiring from Crutchfield. It took me about 3 hours and it wasn't difficult at all to install. The hardest part was disconnecting the wiring from the bezel. It works like a charm, no more issues and it sounds good too.

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

One thing I found testing steering wheel buttons on left. When you push cal/voice command, the phone receives the sound of your voice and not the external mic that comes with new head unit. That mic is only for talking on phone. Sooo the short offs the button is only acts as HEY Google too phone.

I bought a Kenwood radio with the PAC interface. Crutchfield set everything up so it was plug and play.
