Default Exhaust question

I had a local reputable exhaust shop do a custom straight pipe setup using the stock exhaust tips and planned on installing my speed engineering headers with 3” x pipe that reduces to the factory 2.5” over the axle pipes. I just recently noticed the exhaust shop used 2.25” piping for the muffler deletes and I’m not too happy about it. How much power am I losing if any with this? I mean it is 1/4” smaller diameter than stock and I’m going for a free flowing exhaust, not corking it!

Doesn't sound like too much but it is almost a 20% reduction in crossectional area. I'm not expert so not sure how it will affect performance but if it was me I'd be heading back to the exhaust shop

Here’s pics of the setup, it’s been like this for over a year and I didn’t realize it was 2.25” piping until I seen the marking recently. I’m just wondering if I’m losing any power because it is a small section, but in theory the overall diameter is like putting a cork in it imo.

I'd bet $5 that if you dyno it as is and with that 2.25" section swapped to 2.5" you'd see anywhere from 0-2 HP. I'd be pissed but it functionally isn't doing too much.

Hey 2 hp is 2 hp lol… That number will probably multiply after i put on the headers and 3”catless x pipe. I’m going to call them up, I paid $200… I’d possibly be willing to pay another $100 to make it right only since it’s been so long.

Sure, it will go up to maybe a few more HP, but it still stays in the realm of "meh" for me. Very similar approach to the episode of Engine Masters where they dented the heck out of headers to look power drop. Get the muffler shop to sponsor the dyno comparison.

I was trying to gain 2-5 hp with the muffler delete not lose hp. (I know realistically there aren’t much gains from catbacks) plus like 15-20 max from the headers when installed. I wonder if I’m actually losing hp compared to having the stock mufflers or equals out? I’m not sure what size internal piping etc the stockers actually use inside the muffler before routed through the tips. Still 2.25” is puny for an outlet!

I think 2.25" has less restrictions in flow (none) than a 2.5" muffler. If you have the muffler its pretty easy to measure pressure drop through it. This transforms into a science project with the engineers who want to play more than its going to make a functional difference IMO.

Your low end torque will probably increase a bit but your top end horsepower will drop some, not necessarily a big deal if it's driven on the street

As long as you have a X-pipe after the headers, there will be little to no difference.

I wouldn't loose sleep over it. You deleted the mufflers so that adds some flow back to the equation lol.

Loss?..... Make up that miniscule amount elsewhere... and have fun finding it. 😏
