On my car I can be driving at 20 mph or so or sometimes at 55-60, lay down on the throttle and motor will free rev with No acceleration , is this a normal characteristic for these transmissions?? Trans is otherwise in good condition and has no other issues and this is nowhere near a constant chronic issue.
Not normal, so first things I'd be checking are
1. Coolant, looking for signs of transmission fluid
2. Codes
3. Transmission fluid level
When was the last time the fluid was changed? It has a service life, and certainly doesn't last forever.

ll above are good. Trans has 20k on it , bought new from GM,I if I back off the throttle and punch it it takes off like scolded rabbit. If I am cruising along at 55 nicely it will free reve once in a while and not accelerate unless I back off it , let it downshift and punch it. . This is all in regular mode, not in sport mode. I feel this has to be a computer issue of some sort . I’ve heard Gm built this into the units, is there any truth to that?? If that’s the case I’ll be looking around for a stick next time. No fun with A6
btw, no codes
Disconnect the battery cables and touch them together for ten seconds to completely drain the tcm/ecm etc and see if “resetting” the computer does anything.
