My wife saw a 2005 Automatic convertible that she likes. We own a 2001 C5, but I’m not sure about problems with the 2005 automatic.
Any reason not to look at it? The members that own a 2005,I would appreciate your input.

Hi, I have put 30,000 miles on my 2005 Vert. I have driven it 6,000 miles per year since I bought it 5 years ago. Have not had one burp yet. Absolutely no issue with the transmission. It is time to change the trans fluid after she comes out of hibernation. Hope that helps.

How has your 2001 been? Virtually the same thing. My '05' has been flawless for 20 years and 64000 miles.
I have 2005 for 13 years bought it with 12,000 and now 90,000 miles, haven't had big problems except shifter cable which we all experience in all years.
my 05 is dependable, I'm original owner. 60K miles.
I'd say two things to help your decision:
1) All the "normal" failures...balancer, fuel tank pump, shifter cable, etc....affect all years.
2) Biggest issue may be parts availability, as '05 has some one year only parts.

Good luck with your hunting
Just wondering what parts you're talking about here. I can't think of much except the A4. Not being nasty here. Just might learn something.

The major part everyone talks about on the 2005 is the weak rear differential. Many of them were made weaker than other years and I have cracked and broken, etc.
I have heard that too but never experienced it with my nearly 20 year old car. I suppose it could be a problem if you drag strip the car and tear it up. Raymond, oftentimes those who trash a certain model or year have never owned one and only 'parrot' what they hear. Every model year has something. My advise is if your wife likes the car that is the deciding factor. Get it carefully checked out by an independent shop and if it passes, go for it. By the way, thank you for your service to our Nation. Your spouse is an Air Force wife who has put up with so much. She deserves a Corvette!
Have an '05 (manual, however) with 40K and only the very normal issues as mentioned above. Love the car. Only issue with the A4 trans is that it's a 4 speed which was replaced in '06 with a 6 speed auto. Don't believe the trans is a problem itself other than two fewer gears. The rear ends are supposedly weaker but again if you don't drag race you won't have any issues. Lots of negative crap on here about '05s but most of it is not particular to the '05 but all C6's. Wouldn't let it stop me if the car is nice.
Google 4l60e problems, make your own informed decision based on what you plan to do with the car. If your gonna leave it stock and cruise, probably be just fine... if your gonna mod it...well...dont...
