Default Need help with pushrod length

So I’ve recently put a new cam and heads on my c6 m6 ls2. The new heads are a lot bigger than stock heads and I’m going to need longer pushrods. I got a comp cams pushrod length checker that goes from 7.500” to 8.700”. I found the right length for the pushrod and my measurements are telling me I need a 8.680” pushrod for my intake rockers. I’m a little confused though because when I measure the actual pushrod tool the measurement is around 8.250”. I had 22 full rotations on the tool and then a 5/8 turn. 22.625 x the .050” per rotation gives me the number 1.13125. When I add this to the starting number of 7.500” I get 8.63125” and the add another .050” for preload you get the rough number of 8.680”. Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong? There’s no way I can be that far off because I’ve checked numerous times. Made sure the lifter was on base circle, made sure the rod was seated on the lifter, hand tightened and made sure there was no lash but I could still move the rocker arm side to side before torquing down in that half turn to 1 1/2 turn radius. Watched about every video I could and looked at forums till my eyes hurt, so I’d really appreciate any help

Can you explain what you mean by "a lot bigger heads"?

Unless I am missing something, there is no way that an LS2 engine could ever need a pushrod that is 8.6 inches long.

Something is not right here.

Theyre taller than the stock heads. Manufacturer said that typically they require 8.100”-8.400” pushrods.

I would recommend getting a proper pushrod length checker from comp cams or something equal.

I’m not sure what you mean by “proper”. It IS a comp cams pushrod checker. Part 7901-1.
