Default 2005 steering column does not lock

05 automatic transmission Is there a bypass module for an automatic transmission, as my steering column, and the shifter lever do not lock in place, and the car will only run for for more than a couple of seconds, then the reduced engine power comes up on the dash display.
this all took place after the transmission shift cable was replaced although the alignment and calibration have been checked several times

No steering column lock in 2005 A4 cars.
Instead, there is a shifter assembly lock on car, to prevent it from being taken out of the park with car in off/sleep mode.

As for reduced engine power mode, pull history codes with scanner that can pull codes down to body level like Tech II, since standard scanner is only going to pull active codes,
but bank that code will either point you to throttle pedal or throttle body assembly problems.
Both of these have two sensors in each of them, that the sensors work backwards of each other in each unit, and if one of the sensor is not jiving with the other sensor in the unit (one climbing in ohms as the other one is falling), then this cause the code/engine to go into limp mode. If Throttle pedal, there is a way to pull the senor to solve the problem, but with new foot pedal assembly pretty cheap, then may be the better solve instead. As for Throttle body, same same with its internal sensors, since a replacement throttle body assembly is much more expensive instead.
Note, pulling a throttle body apart to correct it internal sensor, no walk in the park if you have never done it before. As for replacement throttle body, make dam sure is the silver vain unit for the early C6's, not the later Gold vain units that the vain opens in the other direction instead.
Also, if you do install the wrong color vain TB in the car, you can use HP tuner to solve that problem, but software is going to be just as much as the TB in the first place.

As for shifter lever not working correctly, bank that someone screwed around with locking pawl, isntead of resolving the micro switch that powers up the locking pawl solenoid to release the locking pawl as the correct event.

Bottom line, sounds like you bought a SEP (someone else's problem), but resolution to the problem is not that much if your doing the work yourself, while if paying for someone else to do the work like a GM dealer that is only parts chargers, could be in the thousand of dollars instead. I bring this up, since you had someone else replace the shifter cable in the first place, instead of just replacing the cable grommets yourself on the cheap for $8.

Default C6 reduced power display

Thank you that's very valuable information. The plastic shifter cable guide broke in the center console behind the shifter Block. The car had ran fine for 5 years leading up to that it sat for about 6 months prior to the shift cable repair which I did have someone start on on it and realize that was a mistake and finished it myself I am skilled mechanic I just don't have the experience with this car, or the proper scanner,
I'm going to move forward with the scan I appreciate it the input very valuable. thank you

If your computer savy, VX GM Nano is about the cheapest Tech !! clone your going to find, and it works with the later GSD2 software for later cars as well.

As for shifter assembly,
this will walk you throw how the lock pawl works, to see what is not working, broken, or has been cut off to get the shifter park lock working again.

As for limp mode, get the car into limp mode, and basic scanner will pick up the DTC that is causing the problem to point you to the problem. Hence if foot pedal assembly, or Throttle body assembly, to come up with a plan of attack.

The foot pedal assembly if doable to pull the senor, then sensor apart to clean the T stat board and arms to resolve it sensor problems, but with how cheap they are, and the PITA dealing with springs, may want to just replace the foot pedal assembly if its the problems. Also, take a look at the connector on the pedal, since someone may have tried to install a throttle responce change device, that will not work with the 2005 cars, and may as simple as just removing the after market device to solve the problems.

As for if TB i the problem, same same with boards and swipers to correct for free, but more complex getting to them to clean boards and tweak the swiper ams, then get it back together correctly in the end, over just replacing the tb with silver vain unit instead.
