If you use top tier gas, there is no reason to use Techron for engine cleanliness. The top tier package is already doing that for you, and there is such a thing as too much detergent. At very high doses, you actually start getting deposits from the detergent itself, just like if you used very high doses of laundry detergent in your washing machine, your clothes wouldn’t rinse properly.
As far as the fuel gauge issue, there is evidence that if you encounter that problem, concentrated use of Techron for a few tankfulls can sometimes fix it. So if you are already having a fuel gauge problem, by all means try that. But there is no evidence that periodic use of Techron reduces the odds of having a fuel gauge problem. Sure, there are people who say they use a can 2 or 3 times a year and they’ve never had a gauge problem. But there are even more people including me who are problem free without using Techron. To determine whether using it 2 or 3 times a year reduces the odds of having the gauge problem, there would have to be a controlled study, and there is no such study.
Note that the above does not mean Techron as used in Chevron gas is a bad additive. It is fully competitive with other top tier additives. It simply means that there is no reason to use extra Techron (or any other gasoline additive) on a routine basis if you use top tier gas.
Thanks everyone. I have a 1LE grand sport with a HUD so was wondering if the previous owner went so far as to add the correct windshield, so thanks for answering that. As far as the Techron, don't have a fuel gauge problem, just heard others say we should add.
Add it once a year...waiting for the problem to arise is the wrong approach. Adding Techron PREVENTS the problem.
And if you have a car with direct injection (e.g. your daily driver), then by all means you REALLY need to add it once a year to keep the back of the valves clean.
I also have a 1LT Grand Sport where the previous owner added HUD and left the OE windshield. Looks clear as day and no different than a Z06 I drove recently with it all from the factory.
As to the windshield, yes it is OEM, but not for a car with HUD installed. It would be labeled "LAMINATED GS HUD". So if your car has the HUD as a production OEM option, then the former owner replaced the windshield with a non-HUD rated glass. Not a problem, except some might experience slight double-triple imaging that would make the HUD image appear slightly blurry.
I replaced mine using Safelite and the certification is below. It is the same as OEM, just doesn't carry the GM logo...GD

That's one of the big problems with direct injection, the intake valves don't get washed by the fuel and they get deposit build up. But adding Techron isn't going to do a thing because it's not going to wash the valve either.

You're right about that...I was thinking port injection where the fuel sprays on the back of the valves.
Techron--A little over a year ago, I bought a '09 with 53k miles on it. Just as a general idea, not knowing the previous gas brand usage, I thought I would run a double dose in my gas tank. A few months later, I had a injector stick/go bad. Coincidence? I will definitely not run a high dose again.
I have never used additives unless there was a problem to fix.
What does it do for direct injection where fuel doesn’t see the back of the valve anyway?
While I don’t keep cars for their lifetime, I feel
comfortable enough with the approach I take.
When guys come on here with these 8-10k mile storage queens talking about running additives regularly is kind of nonsense IMHO
